Average solar flux was down a few points last week, and the sunspot trend was downward, with zero visible sunspots for the past two days. On each day the solar flux was below the ninety day average of 75.
The geomagnetic field is expected to be disturbed for the next few days. Look for a K index around four through the contest weekend, with a slowly rising solar flux. The flux is expected to peak in the mid-eighties around November 8, then slide back to around 70 from the 19th through the end of the month. November 15 is expected to be very stormy, with a A index around 30. The periods from November 10 to 12 and 20 to 25 are expected to be quite stable, with A indices below 10.
Sunspot Numbers for October 26 through November 1 were 30, 15, 15, 12, 24, 0 and 0, with a mean of 13.71. 10.7 cm flux was 73.9, 74, 73.8, 73.8, 73.3, 73.3 and 74.5, with a mean of 73.8.
The path projection is for the Sweepstakes Contest this weekend, with paths from San Francisco to Dallas, Atlanta and Virginia, and from Cleveland to Los Angeles, Denver and Florida.
From San Francisco to Dallas, the best times for 80 meters are 2330 to 1430z, peaking from 0300 to 1230. 40 meters, all times except 1330z- 1430z, peaking 0100z-1300z. 20 meters, 1530z-0100z. 15 meters, 1730z-2200z, peaking around 2000z.
From San Francisco to Atlanta, the best times for 80 meters are 0000 to 1300z, peaking after 0200, on 40 meters from 2130 to 0230 and 0830 1000, and on 20 meters from 1700 to 2100.
From San Francisco to Virginia, the best times for 80 meters are 0100 to 1230z, on 40 meters from 2200 to 0230 and 0700 to 0900, and on 20 meters from 1600 to 2100.
From Cleveland to Los Angeles, the best times for 80 meters are 0000 to 1300z, peaking from 0230 to 1130, on 40 meters from 1500 to 1630 and 2100 to 0100, and on 20 meters from 1800 to 1900.
From Cleveland to Denver, the best times for 80 meters are 2200 to 1400z, peaking from 0100 to 1130, on 40 meters from 1500 to 0200 and 0730 to 0900, and again around 1300, and on 20 meters from 1600 to 2100.
From Cleveland to Florida, the best times for 80 meters are 2100 to 1300z, peaking from 0000 to 1030, on 40 meters all times except around 1300, peaking from 2300 to 0130 and 0700 to 0900, and 20 meters from 1500 to 2030.
